Deeanne and Alyce

Deeanne and Alyce

Our proposal story is pretty unique, we think. We both knew we wanted to propose to each other but we didn’t know who was going to propose first and how they were going to do it.

Alyce knew she wanted to propose at sunrise on the 1st day of this year (2021) with the SCJ ring she had designed for Dee. Leading up to the proposal Dee had organised a little trip away for Alyce’s Christmas present and with the accommodation she had booked, planning to propose on the second night of the trip (02/01/2021) the day after Alyce proposed (both still not knowing what each other was planning).

Leading up to the morning Alyce had planned a boho picnic set up in at Newcastle beach, the weather was looking to be raining which was not a good time leading up to the proposal.

We got to the picnic set up where Dee was blind folder and guided down to the picnic spot by Alyce (Hit a few trees on the way…) Alyce had organised their little puppy ‘King’ to be dropped off for the picnic.
Dee took her blind fold off to Alyce on one knee with King sitting next to her in a bow tie so he look the part.
Dee said yes and we sat and watched the rain roll over the hill towards us.

Due to Covid, Dee’s road trip locations did not go to plan and resulted in a last-minute re-arrangement. She booked in new Airbnb’s leading up to the trip and realised that the first location was the spot that she loved the most and would be perfect to propose to Alyce, she still at this point had no idea when or where Alyce was going to propose. After our morning up at the beach we set off for Bostobrick, the place was beautiful a spot we will never forget.

Once we got there Dee told Alyce to head inside for a little bit. This is when Dee set up the most magical spot outside with fairy lights and a food platter, right near an outdoor bath with a view. Dee proposed to Alyce with an amazing handmade book she had made earlier filled with photos of us both.
So, without us even trying we both ended up proposing to each other on the say day, something special we will never forget.

Did you choose or design your ring together or did you surprise your partner?

We had found a style that Dee really liked so I had an idea of how I wanted to design it, but the gem colour and the end design of the ring was a surprise for Dee.

What are your favourite details of the ring?

We wanted something different to your normal engagement ring, something unique that no one else had. It was originally meant to be two separate pieces, but I combined it to be one ring. I love how the diamonds hug the gemstone and just the overall shape of the ring is something unique and special to us.

What designs / themes inspired your choice of engagement ring?

Dee and I had been looking online at unique rings something different to your typical engagement ring. That’s when we came across design similar to what Dee has on her hand now.

Where would you like to get married? Or tell us about your wedding day.

We are getting married at the end of this year in December! We found this amazing spot called The Green Cathedral in Tiona. We went camping one weekend up the coast at Seal Rocks and was told by one of Dees friends to go visit this amazing place just near where we were staying. As soon as we walked in, we knew that this is where we wanted to get married, so we booked in the ceremony before we were even engaged!

What is a perfect wedding to you? Themes, destination, size

We always knew we wanted to get married somewhere different and unique which is when we stumbled across the Green Cathedral, we knew it was the spot! Its an open-air outdoor ‘Cathedral’, with natural wooden pews enclosed by a beautiful palm forest on the shores of Wallis Lake, in the Booti Booti National Park. Our vibe has been boho leading up to the wedding doing a lot of DIY together. The whole DIY process has been a lot of fun and it is something we can look back at and remember that we made together for our special day.

What advice would you give to someone getting engaged?

The only advice I can give is to just enjoy every moment of it! The time leading up to the proposal and the time there after. It is all such an amazing and exciting experience to remember and cherish with the one you love. When you know you have met your soulmate, the person you can’t see your life without them in it, then why wait.

How did you meet?

We met at our Gym. We were both in separate classes but spotted each other from across the gym. There was a connection there, and we hadn’t even spoken a single word. It was another 9 months until we gathered the courage to add each other on socials and have our first in person conversation.

How long have you been together?

Almost two years now. Or as one of our favourite poets has written;

‘Time has no agenda. You can meet someone and love them right away or grow your love over many years. You could have known someone for eternity, and they still could not understand your core existence, yet the stranger at the bus stop knows exactly who you are. Time doesn’t mean a thing.’ Courtney Peppernell

What was your first impression of each other?

Alyce - When I finally built up the courage to speak to Dee I was hooked. Her personality was infectious, and I couldn’t get enough of her, she made me laugh and put a smile on my face straight away, one that hasn’t left since the day we met. Straight away we just clicked, and I felt an energy I had never felt with anyone before.

Dee – Alyce has the kindest eyes, and sweetest smile. I could tell from the very first moment that she had a genuine heart and that’s something I admired. Our connection from the moment we met was unexplainable.

Describe your partner as if you were telling someone who didn’t know them

Alyce- She has the most caring soul and would do anything for the ones she loves. Her laugh and personality lights up a room whenever she walks in. As well as her blue ocean eyes, they are eyes that you will never forget and just pull you in, I find myself always getting lost in them. Once you met Dee you will never forget her.

Dee – Alyce portrays a ‘tough guy’ image, bit she’s the sweetest, most caring, and romantic person I have ever met. She has the ability lift peoples mood and energy without even trying. Alyce wears her heart on her sleeve and would go to the ends of the earth for the ones she loves.

What do you love most about your partner?

Alyce - There are so many things I love about Dee. Her kind soul, she is compassionate, she can make all the stresses of my day go away just by walking into the front door. She is always supporting me in anything I hope to do in life. The way she loves and cares for me as well as the people in her life. She knows me better then I know myself and I am forever grateful our paths crossed.

Dee – Alyce feels like home. She radiates love and warmth, and I feel safe in her presence She raises me up, encourages me, supports me and builds my confidence every single day. Alyce allows me to be my most authentic self. She cares for me and loves me on my good days and bad. When I look in her eyes, I feel loved, I feel whole and I feel safe.

Tell us about your unique love, how do you feel you are better together than without?

We gravitate off each other. We support each other and help each other with any problems we both might face. Deeanne can calm my anxiety down like no one else ever has. We are creative together, make each other laugh. We both feel like we have known each other our whole lives. We both get excited about our future together, making plans and getting excited for what’s to come together. Each day we are apart at work we write each other notes that get through the day until we get to see each other again. We have a love that not many people find in a lifetime we know what each other is feeling and when something isn’t right, we can tell straight away. We both get excited about our future together, making plans and getting excited for what’s to come together.

What do you recall about your first date?

Alyce - Well Dee rescheduled our first catch up in person, she didn’t realise she was booked in to get her brows done but we did reschedule for the next day. I worked at Aurecon at the time and she worked just up the street at BHP. I remember Dee messaged me saying she was out the front, I walked out, and she wasn’t there. I replied with “Where are you? Because you’re definitely not out the front. I’m out the front” Turns out she was next door at a business called ‘AECOM’ where I ironically work now, we still laugh about her sitting outside of the wrong workplace waiting for me.

Dee – Our first official date was a pizza picnic at Newcastle Beach. Alyce had organised my favourite pizza and had done her research to find a delicious vegan wine. I’m forever grateful for the effort she puts into our date nights.

What’s your nicest memory together as a couple?

We have a lot but if we had to choose, our engagement. How our engagement happened is a memory we will never forget. We both didn’t know who was going to propose first. Alyce planned to propose to Dee when the sun rose for the first time this year. Dee had organised a trip away for the first three nights of the year and was planning to propose to Alyce on the second night. Due to Covid Dee had to reschedule the trip locations which resulted in her proposing to me the same afternoon I proposed to her. It was something special we will never forget.

Do you share any passions, hobbies or amusing interests?

Well the gym obviously, but we also love going for coffee in at the beach, watching reality tv shows together. Cooking together (Alyce is Dee’s apprentice) Finding adventures and exploring. We also like trying to attempt any tik toks trends Dee may find.

At what moment did you know they were ‘the one’?

As we got to know each other after only talking for a few days we both knew there was something different about each other. The connection we both felt was one not many people find in a lifetime. We knew after those first few coffee dates and Wetland walks that we were each other’s person; we couldn’t see our lives without each other in it.

Do you have an “our song”?

Alyce - We have an ‘Our Playlist’ I guess you could say. It’s a playlist we created where we add songs that remind us of each other.

Dee – Alyce and I both have playlists that we add to whenever we hear a song that reminds us of each other. Sometimes when we struggle to find the words to explain the depths of our love, a song will encapsulate it for us. So we add it to our playlist and let the other one hear it in their own time, when they next go onto the playlist.

What do you look forward to in the rest of your life together?

We can’t wait to start a family together, going on adventures and seeing new places together I look forward to just creating memories with Dee like we already have been doing.
